2013

Last February 6, 2012 Antoni Tàpies died. He was born on December 13, 1923, festivity of Santa Lucía. I knew personally Tàpies, whom always I admired. One evening of 1998, when he was celebrating his 75 birthday, I registered a dialogue with him. Now I transcribe and translate the conversation from his original Catalan language. I present this document like posthumous honoring. The dialog took place in his home, which it was using as artist atelier, designed by the architect Coderch, and placed in the Saragossa street of Barcelona. Tàpies always was a dedicated man, capable of arguing his actions, defender of the human rights, and an educated person of cordial treatment. Inheritor of a fami…

2015

The new art history arises, from an interdisciplinary view, theoretical and practical embodiment issues related with contemporary art and its inclusion and development in university world. At the same time, gender studies have been incorporated into the development of postgraduate curriculum, placing value on the art work of women, continuing the contestation to the canon already started in the twentieth century. These gender discourses have assumed new technologies as the most versatile media format with unlimited field for image dissemination. Consequently, in the context of globalization, the intangible and digitalformats have become priority means when developing feminist and post-femini…

2016

How is the action of sniffing others, which has been depreciated by good manners and aesthetic standards, represented in pictures? In unveiling the theme of social sniffing, this essay aims to track variations around the odour of the body and olfactory communication in Western visual arts. This issue implies to examine the social roles of sui generis as well as artefactual human odours, and to assess figurative arts as a means to unveil historical trends in the forms and functions of the sense of smell in our culture. The corpus of figurative works consulted, far from exhaustive, stretches from medieval and classical allegories of smell to the visual language of perfume advertisements, thro…
